ROUTE 66: CITY OF MURALS

'what the heck...where's my horse?' on one side of the building...
and on the other... ' hee hee hee' !!!

while in tucumcari,nm this past weekend we had a few hours to kill, so we picked up a map with all the famous wall murals listed, and we made our way around town to check them all out.
above are a few of my favorites of the 40+ that are around the town.
its a pretty quick tour, as most of these murals are on either side of the main strip of route 66 in tucumcari- we had a good time spotting a new one on every corner. my favorite is the last one i posted above.. with the cowboy holding his saddle looking for his horse!!! (hee hee hee!!)

ROUTE 66: RANCH SUPPLY AND WATSON'S

if you find yourself in tucumcari, nm stopping at the ranch supply is a must. the friendliest people in town and a store with a little bit of everything. even a nursery!
and it gets better: if you are in tucumcari on a friday or saturday you have to walk next door to watson's bbq for some truly delicious chopped sandwiches with a side of truly authentic bbq shops!

we bought one of everything from the store, i even walked out with an amazing cow hide...and we even made their facebook page!
while there's not much to do in tucumcari, i'm pretty sure after the few short hours we were there it was known that the lane girls were in town! we aren't quite what you would call a quiet group of gals :)

PRAYING FOR OKLAHOMA

ROUTE 66: ESPRESSO BAR

this weekend the lane girls (minus the little lane) packed up for a last minute road trip to new mexico to be with family. the saying: we might not have it all together, but together we have it all is very fitting here!
not to harp on the sad things, we mad the most of the trip and and time together and even got to see a few 'historical' sites in the great city of tucumcari, nm.

theres not much to know about tucumcari, but there are a few cool facts:
its on route 66
tucumcari is know to be the 'unofficial mural city' of route 66
(over 40 murals are painted around the town- more on that tomorrow)
it has several really cool motels
and this really neat espresso bar @ the historic route 66 motel

family run, with lots of personality, quality and very delicious coffee and espresso options to get your day going. they are only open 6:30am -11:00am. so grab a cup of coffee here before you head out to explore (and i mean that lightly) the metropolis of tucumcari!!

we loved it- and will be back next time we visit logan,nm!

EIGHTEEN: CHILDHOOD

Day 18 of the challenge:  Tell a story from your childhood.

friends. i wanted to be sure to get something out today, to keep up with the challenge, but family matters pull rank over the blog this weekend.

so i don't have time to leave you with a full story from my childhood, but i did have time to round up one of my favorite pictures from my childhood:)
here is my sister, my mod mom, and myself - my mom, oh so posh!

SEVENTEEN: A FAVORITE

Day 17 of the challenge. A favorite photo of yourself and why...
feels kinda strange picking a favorite photo of just myself, so i tried to pick one that has a lot of meaning to me personally.
this past january i finished my yoga teacher training (RYS 200). it was a personal goal i set. i saved the money (setting a little aside every month so it would be more meaningful). and i dedicated the six months of the training (we met every other weekend for 12 hours) to my personal yoga practice. i was in the studio 5 or 6 days a week and i loved every minute of it.
the last big goal i had set in my life was to attend and complete college in four years. (this may not seem like a big deal to many, but i was the first in my family to do so.)

so here's why this picture means a lot to me. it was taken the last day of our training, and i was  extremely proud of myself and our group for becoming newbie yoga teachers. to me this picture and moment represents devotion, commitment and love to my yoga practice.

DAY SIXTEEN: LIFE IS GOOD

Day 16 of the ChallengeSomething difficult about your "lot in life" and how you're working to overcome it.
this topic is hard for me. to be honest my life is pretty good.
i have an amazing family, i could not ask for better friends, my boyfriend is amazing... and i have a job that i love. to be fair, its not all always rainbows and unicorns- we're all human. but the gettin' is pretty good around these parts.

i would like to honor most of my relaxed and anxious free outlook to The Lord. a few years ago, when i moved back to the states, i was not sure where my life was going and what it was going to look like (the 5, 10 year goal planning question comes up a lot when your in college) and i started getting really anxious about everything and every choice i made.

moving to the states also blessed me with some really spiritual influences that i will be forever grateful for- one of my takeaways from one of my first bible studies in college was to pray for peace and calmness in my life. to cast my anxieties on Him and trust Him with His plan and path He has prepared for me. it might sound a little 'cheesy' but i am here today to tell you this prayer is very powerful and holds honest to goodness truth in my life. God is good!

*ps: picture above is the view from the house we family vacation ever year-
can't wait to head back in a few weeks!!

DAY FIFTEEN: DAY IN THE LIFE

day 14 of the #blogeverydayinmay challenge... a day in the life (include photos from a typical day- even a photo and hour if you like)... well this challenge has turned out to be rather difficult given the fact that i have been sick and forced to rest and take it easy the past (too many days).
however, i have been trying to keep a schedule, but i have limited my yoga practice (super sad) and spending time outside- sigh.  but i do tend to take a lot of pictures throughout my day to i was able to snap a few from yesterday and sneak in a few from my photo stream to almost come up with a 'day in the life' of the lane for you:

i am an early riser. part because i love the stillness of the morning and part because its the time sp and i have time to talk on the phone before our days get busy. on a working ranch the days start early to stay out of the summer heat and funny enough, cattle like a regular feeding schedule!
so after we talk, i take my coffee (or these days warm lemon water) and write a blog post and read up on my personal email.
when i'm not down and out- i head to the yoga studio like clockwork to make a morning class and to get the workout and sweaty part of my day out of the way.
i work from home, so i get to enjoy my job in the comfort of my home.. unless i head out for a change of scenery and spend a few hours at a local coffee shop
sometimes lunch is good ol' leftovers from the night before. i'm not too fussy about lunch. yesterday it was a yummy green-protein shake with a side of frozen grapes. have you tried them before?! aaaa-mazing. they are perfectly sweet and a very refreshing summer time snack!

like i said i have been stuck indoors recently, but getting in an afternoon walk is something i love to make time for on a regular day

dinner for one is never very exciting. cooking for two is more my style.
but i try to eat healthy as much as possible. yesterday was an easy rice dish with sautéed veggies- yum!

being an early riser, normally calls for an early bedtime as a result. i'm ok with it. the sun is down and the best sleep is before midnight- sign me up!
i like to end my day with a hot cup of 'sleepy time tea' - calming and yummy, every time.
reading back, that kinda seems like a boring day. but really i've grown to love my 'routine' of quiet time, yoga, work and getting out and about either for a walk, errands or meeting up with friends. its the little things that keep us happy and healthy - doing something for yourself and for others once a day never hurt anyone!

DAY FOURTEEN: HAPPY THINGS

day 14 of the #blogeverydayinmay challenge... and its all about ten things that make you really happy (these are mine, in no particular order):

1: laughing and spending time with family, boyfriend and friends.. laughter is the best medicine!
"A cheerful heart is good medicine" (Prov 17:22)

2: hot coffee, morning wake-up cup or afternoon pick-me-up ....all sounds good.
3: my job- being in a role where i get to be completely humble, where i get to serve others is a true blessing.
4: watching a storm roll in, and listening to the rain pitter patter....
5: being in the country; the calm, quiet and amazing beauty gets addicting!
6: yoga. being on my mat and taking time for myself.
7: fresh flowers. either in the house or in the garden.
8: going 'junkin'. flea markets, estate sales, vintage sales or even a good ol' garage sale.
9: handmade, on the rocks, lane family recipe- margarita. anytime.
10: mexican food, peanut butter, and a home cooked meal.

it was hard to only choose 10.. hence the few that fall in the same category ;)
